Renewable energy

Suggest changes

Solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, wood, and other biomass energy: output, costs, land and materials, environmental effects, storage, and backup.

Issue discussion in preparation.

Principles

  • Compare solar projects by delivered energy and total system cost, not nameplate capacity alone.
  • Account for sunlight, seasonal output, grid connections, and the resources needed when output is low.
  • Renewable energy still uses land, materials, equipment, and transmission; compare the entire system.
  • Match electricity supply to demand, including storage and backup when output varies.
